Cleaning your windows can be tedious and tiring. For this chore, you have to make sure you’re only using tools and cleaners recommended by the manufacturer to avoid damage and a voided warranty.
Two Scrubbers
Have a scrubber for the inside and another for the outside so you don’t bring outside pollutants indoors.
Liquid Dish Detergent
Dishwashing liquid cleans dirt and grease. It makes the glass slippery so the squeegee glides easier. Use a 100% biodegradable soap to protect your landscaping. Inside your home, it will protect kids and pets who come into contact with the windows or sills.
Vinegar
Vinegar is a great choice if you want to use natural cleaning products. Acetic acid or vinegar breaks down grease and doesn’t create streaks, making it an excellent cleaner for replacement windows. Simply mix one part water with one part vinegar.
New Blades
A 12- to 14-inch squeegee is ideal for most windows. Replace the rubber blades after each cleaning to prevent streaks.
Detailing Rags
Have two detailing rags: one for sills and the other for detailing the edges of the glass.
Dry, Cloudy Day
Clean your windows when it’s shady outside. The heat will make the moisture evaporate faster, leaving stubborn streaks.
Dust & Dirt First
Brush or vacuum the dirt from the window frame first before you start using cleaning solutions. It will prevent dirt from becoming a muddy mess. Remove dirty window screens and wash with hot, soapy water. Rinse and dry before putting them back.
