You might be surprised to know that there are two ways to install replacement windows: insert and full frame. In this blog, Renewal by Andersen® of Northwest Ohio shares a closer look at these two window replacement methods and how we decide which one to use.
Insert vs. Full-Frame Window Installation
The choice between an insert and a full-frame window installation depends on the condition of the window frame. During initial window replacement consultations, the existing window frame is inspected for stability and for signs of warping, moisture damage and other issues that might affect its structural integrity.
If the frame is deemed to be in good condition, then insert installation will be more appropriate. The window frames will remain in place during installation. Only minor corrections, such as alignment, level and insulation, will be done. This window replacement method costs less and can be completed faster as only the sashes and outer trim will be replaced. Since our replacement windows are built to size, you have the assurance that the new sashes will perfectly fit your existing window frames.
You may already be familiar with the full-frame installation method. Here, the entire window – frames included – is removed and replaced. In addition to replacing old and unsuitable window frames, it also lets the replacement window contractor address hidden issues that may affect the areas around the frames.
What You Can Expect From Renewal by Andersen®
Renewal by Andersen replacement windows are crafted to match the existing window opening, or, in the case of insert installation, the existing window frames. An exact fit is important as it helps create an energy-efficient seal that prevents heat leaks. It also helps preserve the original structure as there will be no need to resize the existing window opening. Thanks to our Fibrex® material frames and High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass packages, you won’t have to worry about the increased energy costs brought about by leaky windows.
Even the best replacement windows won’t reach their full potential unless they’re properly installed. Our replacement windows are installed by handpicked installers, not subcontractors. We are confident of their installation skills that our Transferable Limited Warranty includes a two-year coverage on installation.
