The way your windows are trimmed affects the overall appearance of your home’s interior. Picking the right trim is essential if you don’t want to have a window that looks out of place. Renewal by Andersen® of Northwest Ohio has put together a guide to help you understand interior window trim better.
Knowing Your Trim
First of all, know your trim. It is always good to have a basic understanding of what terms you may encounter in your conversations with design and replacement experts. You have the top and side casings, each with the corresponding top and side jambs. At the bottom of your window is the sill. Sitting on it is the stool, which is a board that is installed with its wide surface parallel to the ground. Below the stool is the window apron, which is installed similarly to the top and side casings.
Picking Your Trim
Think about what architectural style you were aiming for when you first got your home. If you have a modern or contemporary home, for instance, avoid getting trim in loud colors that will make your windows awkwardly stand out. Figure out how best your trim can complement the rest of your interiors. To help you do so, we have a Visualizer tool that shows how different colors, frames, glass and trim for replacement windows may look in your home.
Maintaining Your Trim
Every part of your home can last even beyond their average lifespans if they are constantly cared for and properly maintained. Keep your window trim clean at all times. Check that none of the sections are coming loose or showing signs of damage. If you suspect something is off, call for a window inspection right away.
